Team Beard Gang wins Trip to Madrid!

This past Saturday Jan 25th,  22 teams from all over the USA participated in an open doubles online tournament utilizing the the Radikal System. Colin Rath of Perkasie PA, and his partner Andy McMaster of Bonneauville PA took home the first place prize consisting of an all expense paid trip to Madrid Spain to participate in the Radikal Darts International Championships. Colin and Andy will also join Shelti/Radikal professionals Darin Young and Jeremiah Millar to play the team event in Madrid. The Radikal Dart International Championships will take place a few months from now - May 1st through the 4th 2014. This year will mark the first time any USA players have made the trip to Spain to participate in the Radikal International Championships.

Saturdays event was a hard fought battle by all of the teams. The event format was a best of 7 combo in Crk and 501 on the winners side and best of 5 on the losers side. Team 9DartOut (Ken McCowen and Isen Veljic - Joliet, IL) cruised their way to the kings seat match only dropping 2 legs during the first 5 matches. They met Colin and Andy in the kings seat match which turned out to be the first of three matches played between the two teams. Team 9DartOut kept things rolling and easily took the match 4 legs to 0. Isen closed the match with emphasis on a 105 finish making it an 11 dart 501 leg. Earlier in the event Isen also threw a perfect 9 dart 501 leg. Team Beard Gang won the semi final match against Team Kaotik 3 (Brad Eckenrode and Jade Henson - Crestview, FL) 3 legs to 1 to put them in the finals for a rematch against Team 9DartOut. The finals match would prove to be a much different outcome than the first meeting between them. The first final match went back and forth and ended up going all 7 legs with Team Beard Gang coming out on top. This forced a final deciding match in the double elimination event that eventually went all 7 legs as well. The final leg of the match proved to be the most compelling as both teams were down to just bulls eyes in the cricket leg. In round 12 Team 9DartOut’s Ken McCowen had the throw needing a hat trick to end the match. He managed only 2 leaving the door open for team Beard Gang. Colin Rath had the throw for Team Beard Gang needing only one bulls eye to overcome the points deficit for the win. With his first dart hitting dead center of the double bull Colin sealed the win and the trip to Madrid.
